The lunch bell rings, your stomach growls and you head outside for recess. Your tasty lunch is all packed and ready to be eaten BUT while you're outside with the girls (and guys) you start talking, laughing, and having fun. Your time to eat comes and goes, your stomach is empty, your tasty lunch now sits soggy in your bag. It's hard to work in class all afternoon, your energy is low and you start to develop a headache....if only you'd given yourself time to eat your lunch!! Does this sound familiar? I really hope not. Eating your lunch (a healthy one) is sooooooooo important. Your lunch gives you energy to continue learning and functioning throughout the day. When you don't eat, your stomach gets confused. Later in the day, your stomach will send a message to your brain to EAT A.S.A.P!!! Obedient as you all are, you will eat but the problem is you will be so hungry you'll grab something that probably isn't so good for you (chips, chocolate bars, candy, cookies). These quick snacks are yummy but they aren't nutritious and won't sustain you and your energy needs (they won't fill you up). You will be hungry soon after finishing and you'll be trolling the cupboards at home for something to fill the void. All of this could have been avoided if only you'd eaten your lunch!! This week's topic is nutrition. Do you feel like you fall into the category mentioned above or are you on the right track when it comes to eating healthfully? What are your secrets if you are? What is it about your lunches that you don't like? Why do some of you not bring a lunch to school at all? What do you think we should do to make sure everyone eats a healthy lunch at school?
Attached is an article...some food for thought.
Talk....
I have that same problem, but for me, ever since i was little i would never get really hungry in the morning because i would always eat "midnight snacks" and i would always have my lunch around 3pm. so every morning when i wake up my mom would always make sure i eat a big breakfast.
ReplyDeleteGreat thoughts Mrs. Jack.
ReplyDeleteLunch time is spent socializing, not eating, let alone healthy eating.
Dear Deadmau5, a big breakfast is a good thing. To keep your body well fuelled though, I do recommend eating mid day (12ish rather than 3pm). If you aren't hungry for a meal at least have a healthy snack. If you spread your healthy lunch over a three hour period you'll be feeling energized and you won't need a huge snack at 3pm. If you do this, you'll be ready for a well timed dinner which will be prior to sleep time and will fill you enough that you won't need to wake up for a midnight snack. Our bodies can be trained to eat right and at different times; it just takes some strategizing. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteMrs. jack, extend the voting time for your poll, your page tab on my tool bar was not working for days. My class has had no way to look until today.
ReplyDeleteI always eat my lunch but for some reason Im still always hungry after lunch. Also after im done my lunch I eat some snacks like yogurt or something else but I still remain hungry??????????
ReplyDelete@princess peach i think need to eat more then yogurt like maybe add an apple or something else that is healthy
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you girls need more protein. Add some humus onto your sandwich, boil an egg, grab a handful of almonds, try a quinoa salad ... make sure what you are eating isn't high in sugar. These will make you feel full for a short period of time but you'll burn it off so quickly that you'll be hungry an hour after eating.
ReplyDeleteI never eat breakfast in the morning because i don't feel hungry i just chew gum and i feel fine but it ends up i'm always tired afterwards i always eat lunch but i never really eat dinner because right after school i eat something and then for the rest of the time i'm fine the only thing is just before bed i have a glass of milk but really for that much i eat i feel just fine maybe a headache once in a while but i'm fine regularly .But one thing is like some people even thought they don't eat lunch they seem so fine, they dont say they have a headache and they just keep on playing
ReplyDelete@Mrs.Jack: my mom says its good to eat nuts and almonds but for girls its not good to eat to much because........yeaaaa
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advise and tips, oh yeah and its me, Donna.
ReplyDelete@neha lol my mom sais that too and sana ya maybe i should eat a bit more like something more than just a yogurt but like neha said she has a glass of milk before bed I do the same but I end up never eating breakfast because Im never hungry But I do have a glass of milk before I leave for school and I also don't really eat dinner because I eat something UNhealthy after I come from school but then I don't feel like eating so I just eat a bite and go to sleep.
ReplyDeletein that last sentence I meant bit not bite sorry
ReplyDelete@princess peach: yea....same here in the morning i will have a glass of milk but i wont have a proper breakfast as in like having pancakes or waffles things like that
ReplyDelete@aloo/neha exactly Im not really hungry in the morning so I don't have a proper breakfast even though I know it's important.
ReplyDelete@mustacho/sonali:yup like even though i know we should eat breakfast i don't, like i do eat but no "PROPER"
ReplyDeleteyes like "proper" you mean like I don't know cereal or pancakes and the things all I eat/drink is milk and sometimes 1 or 2 cookies but usually I'm not hungry., but the weird thing is that on the weekends when I wake up I'm really hungry but then when it is a school day I am never hungry in the morning ( maybe because on the weekends I have been in bed for too long and I need something to eat, I sleep really long on the weekends, while on the other hand for school I wake up early so I'm not as hungry)
ReplyDelete@Princess peach: exactly i feel the same way during the weekend im hungry like right away i ask my mom what did u make and then during school days i dont even think about eating
ReplyDelete@aloo exactly For some reason I'm never hungry during the morning of school days
