Catching your zzzzzzzs.....

You've probably heard it before, but did you know that girls your age should be getting up to 9 hours of sleep every night? There are many things that might be keeping you from getting to bed (and staying in bed!) for your full 9 hours. Television, texts, facebook, games, ... stress, the list is very long. If you are feeling tired and waking up every day dragging your feet out of bed then it's time to make a change. Sleep is an essential part of making ourselves feel good (and happy). Here's an article to read if you've got a minute,
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/teens-health/CC00019/NSECTIONGROUP=2
So what do you think? What's keeping you from getting your full 9 hours? Perhaps you're all sleeping really well, what's your secret?

zzzzzz.... Mrs. Jack

  5. Its Nicole! I didn't realize all these factors were keeping me from sleeping! Usually in the night I have so much to do that I instantly fall asleep. But sometimes when I try to go to bed early I just can't fall asleep! I'll try these steps in the article and see if it works!

  8. i dont even notice if i get 9 hours of sleep but on ething i know is that on the weekends i usually get more then 9 hours of sleep. i get into deep sleep in the morning alot just like $onali. watching tv actual helps me sleep sometimes but reallly late. like if i watch tv until 1 in the morning then im most likely to get sleepy.

  9. I appreciate that 5 of my students claim to be full of energy. I think I will record them saying hello in the moring because it sounds something like this "arrgghhhhhhougghhhhhh" and only with a hearing aid can I hear it

  10. @ sonali i tryed that and it didnt work for me. i even tryed drinking 3 glasses of warm milk but it just wakes me up, but if you read a book for like 2 hours then your eyes get droopy and you feel like sleeping but you have to stay focuse on sleeping

  13. I have trouble sleeping at night i wake up so tired in the morning and i don't want to come to school but i have to force myself to get up or my mom yells at me to get up. If im tired during school(im almost never tired im always full of energy) when i take a nap when i come back from school it makes it harder to sleep at night. So i stay up a little and im tired in the morning. I usually sett y alarms clock to 6:45 because i come to school late sometimes and its hard to get up.

  17. Hi girls...(and Mr. Cheney)! I posted a comment last night but it seems I didn't sign in as myself and it didn't stick. BOOOOO....
Anyhow, just wanted to first clarify that I am Mrs. Jack not Ms. Jackson (although she might come join us here once in a while).
Next, I wanted to talk about 3 glasses of warm milk before bed....mistake number 1!!! Stick to one glass girls!! 3 will just keep you up all night going to the washroom!
Finally, I think you've all mentioned it, television...it's hard to turn it off but we need to! Our eyes become overstimulated and they have a hard time relaxing even when we close the lids. Try turning off the tv an hour before you plan on going to bed. Have a chat, read a book or magazine, play a sudoku game and let yourself get tired. You'll find yourself more ready to sleep after you've tuned out for a bit. Try doing this for 5 nights in a row, you might surprise yourself (and feel like a million bucks!!). I will post early in the week, am thinking something about nutrition? Any questions or recommendations for discussion??

  18. @Nicole I also have problems waking up in the morning it takes me a while to wake up, Im really sleepy/tired and so my mom has to come to my room and wake me up a couple of times.

Thanks Mrs.Jack I will try that from now on. Mrs.Jack I always have a glass of milk before I sleep but that doesn't see to help???????? But I will try turning off the T.V an hour before I plan on sleeping and read a book before I go to sleep ( which i do almost everyday) but thanks anyways for the tips :)

  19. Hey Ms.Jack, (i remember years ago i would always call you Ms.Roden)
Great article! Its always important yet many dont realize how important it is and how it effects you, I always count the hours i will end up sleeping when im trying to fall asleep but my bad habit is that i always fall asleep around 11pm, which isn't so great. I sleep 8-9 hours every weeknight but on weekends i will sleep 7 hours, strangely enough last night was rare for me, i fell asleep at 9pm and woke up at 11am the next day, 14 hours of sleep!!! And i still wanted to sleep more.
Well, those are my sleeping habits...
